TABLER FARMS MURAL
In Fall 2023, I worked on a team of twelve painters, acting as a lead designer and painter at Tabler Farms, an Agricultural Innovation Center in Shepherdstown, WV. We painted seven buildings that thematically represented the purpose of the space. The art director, Sonya Evanisko, divided us into teams to design and paint specific buildings.
Myself and two other painters were assigned two buildings, and tasked with representing local wildlife such as red-tailed hawks, barn owls, foxes, wild turkeys, and crows. We wanted to create a sense of depth and continuity between the two buildings, transforming the space.
In approaching our subject matter, we used Modernist artist Charley Harper as an influence for our designs, as we were drawn to his sense of subtle sophistication and stylization. I truly loved working on this project as it ignited my love for public art; I was additionally pleased that I was able to highlight the beauty of native species with my work. I have always cared deeply about protecting the environment, so I was grateful that I had the opportunity to use my sense of creativity and passion to educate and start conversations about the importance of conservation and preserving indigenous species.
